DnD status in zimbra 6.0.7
I’ve been playing around with 6.0.7_GA_2461 (most likely the final build) to test the drag and drop functionality, something that has been in a constant state of flux for much of it’s life. It was hoped that 6.0.7 would solve all the issues such as
Bug 47048 – drag n drop file doesn’t work for new window
Bug 44828 – DnD support in latest version of Firefox
Here are my findings

batch processing zimbra commands
One of the most common questions on the Zimbra forums is How do I do _________ for every user? While there is no way to apply a change to multiple users at once through the web admin interface, this is quite easy using the cli tools. Here’s a brief overview of the methods
droid does zimbra… with some help
Around December I upgraded from my compact little HTC Touch to Verizon’s new flagship android device, the Motorola Droid. The main thing I use my phone for besides phone purposes is E-mail. We use Zimbra at work and while it supports the same Activesync protocol that Microsoft Exchange does, it doesn’t do it as well and there were already known issues. Nevertheless I knew it was only a matter of time until others at work started to ask about it and since I’ve become pretty much the defacto smartphone “expert” (guinea pig) I figured I might as well take the plunge so I can provide some basic support for it.
Little german boy
Here is Kane at the MyGym halloween party. Who would’ve thought wearing a lederhosen would get you so much attention from the ladies.
parental advice
As a partial stay at home dad I like to think that I have enough parenting advice to appear on oprah. I’d like to share an important one with your now.
for gods sake, set the parental control on your digital cable box
Babies love remotes. They don’t like toy romotes (we tried that), they like remotes that make the big thing in the center of the room do stuff. And as good of a distraction as it can be, understand that they will manage to make your tv do things you didn’t realize were possible by endlessly hitting key combinations. Unfortunately, the key combination to bring up the adult on demand for comcast is incredibly easy, as is proceeding to purchase any number of movies on there. While we caught Kane (17months old) in the middle of doing this a few times, there were times it happened so quick that we wouldn’t even know what happened until the cheesy porn music started.
Whats worse is during his key hitting, Kane managed to set the parental control code himself so we couldn’t use it to lock down the on-demand. I wound up having to call comcast to have them reset the code, something I’m sure they’ve had to do for several other parents. And finally the day I dreaded has come, the comcast bill arrived…

hard sleepers
I vaguely recall this morning Deb waking me up and saying something about the house across the street being on fire. Usually I would be the first to go out to the porch and watch but since Kane was born I’ve pretty much valued every second of sleep I can get. But sure enough when I got up this morning I looked out our front window to see a cleanup crew pulling out charred furniture.

kane potter
Kane has now taken to running down the sidewalk and the inevitable faceplant happened this afternoon. He had a nice lightning bolt shaped abrasion that topped off a welt on his forehead, but did not seem incredibly concerned amazingly enough. I couldn’t get a very good picture of it, which I attribute to the fact that i don’t know how to work cameras but you can pretty much make it out.

KnowledgeTree tip: cleaning out the garage

Like most poeple, we had a kind of ‘catchall’ area on our FTP site, /pub/temp. This was an area that anybody could put anything in with the understanding that it would be automatically deleted after 30 days. We now have a similar area on our KnowledgeTree DMS site. We have a folder called -TEMP- (the dashes make it so it’s always the first folder in the list) that we use for a kind of catchall where people can temporarily store stuff or get a file out to soemone using the handy one time download links. Unfortunately there is no built in way to say ‘delete all the files in here that are 30 days old’. So I started looking at ways to do it. Not being a huge coder/db guy i hesitated to have to do it all by hand with removing the files and deleting the db entries. So I took the slightly less efficient but easier route of using WebDAV.

Adding additional MIME types in KnowledgeTree

Someone reported to me recently that on our KnowledgeTree system, DGN files (engineering drawings) were showing as “Word Documents” and when you clicked to open one it tried to open in Microsoft Word. It seems that knowledgetree defaults to MS word for documents that it does not recognize. Not too horrible of an idea since word will open a lot of formats. This didn’t work for us though so I set out to figure out how to change this.
